Wrestling Hosts Strong Field at Fall Brawl

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Three wrestlers advanced to the finals of their respective brackets as the Ursinus College wrestling team hosted a top-notch field for the annual Fall Brawl inside the Fieldhouse on Saturday.

Senior Alexander Kramer highlighted the Bears' efforts, rolling off five consecutive victories to claim the 149-pound championship, while junior Christopher Tan and senior Matan Peleg were runners-up at 125 and 285, respectively.

Kramer needed just 17 seconds to pin Elizabethtown's Khal Do in the opening round. He followed with an 8-1 defeat of TCNJ's James Beirne and an 18-0 whitewashing against Camden County Community College's Vaughn McFerren. Kramer picked up another fall in the semifinalds opposite Lamont Wallace of Western New England before clinching the title with a 3-1 decision against Jack Stanton-Taddeo of Navy Prep School.

After receiving a first-round bye, Tan went to work with an 18-2 technical fall against The Apprentice School's Anthony Monahan, then scored a fall in 5:43 against Delaware Valley's Jared Jacobs. In the semifinals, Tan collected a 12-2 major decision over McDaniel's Charles Wallace. He dropped a 5-0 final to Delaware Valley's Kordell Rush in the championship bout.

Peleg was impressive in his first action of the season, defeating Apprentice's Steven Francisco, 13-3, and Western New England's Keith Houghtaling, 7-1, to reach the final. There, he fell by a 5-1 count to Delaware Valley's Zachery Roseberry, the No. 1 wrestler in the d3wrestle.com rankings.

Freshman James Harkness (133) and sophomore Robert Endy (165) each reached the semifinals of their respective tournaments. The rookie defeated TCNJ's Mike Plaska, 5-1, in the second round and edged Christian Vallis of Johns Hopkins, 4-3. Harkness was defeated by eventual champion Cody Trybus of NAPS, 10-2, in the semis and Casey Cobb of NAPS in the consolation.

Endy, meanwhile, knocked off Muhlenberg's Cameron Wasson, 11-3, and received a bye to the quarterfinals, where he edged Camden's Cliff Owens, 5-3. Endy was eliminated by Liberty's Patrick Scarborough before a 3-2 defeat in the consolation. Fellow sophomore Zachary Goranson pinned Elizabethtown's Daniel Jerrems in the main draw and tacked on three more victories in the consolation bracket before succumbing to NAPS' Dean Caravela, the third-place finisher. Senior Victor Fernandez, also in the 165-pound bracket, picked up a pair of wins.

Freshman Brandon Miller made a run through the consolation rounds at 125, registering a pin of Camden County's Alex Velez in his first bout. He routed Apprentice's Jared Clark, 19-2, and took down Jacobs, 12-7, before falling to Elizabethtown's Phillip Torresani.

Sophomore Zeb Pfeiffer won twice at 197, including a pin of Elizabethtown's Wyatt Anderson in the main bracket.

Sophomore Zachary Dellicompagni recorded a pair of wins in the consolation at 157, including a tight decision against classmate Eric Miller.

The wrestling team begins its dual-match season next Saturday, November 19, at WPI with bouts against Roger Williams and the host Engineers.
