Wrestling now 4-0 in Centennial after wins over Stevens; JHU

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Ursinus College wrestling team remained undefeated in Centennial Conference play, and on the season, with a pair of wins over Stevens and Johns Hopkins on Saturday.

In opener of the day, Ursinus defeated 19th-ranked Stevens 36-5, while dispatching host Johns Hopkins by a 24-6 to move to 12-0 and 4-0 in the Centennial.

Against Stevens, Ursinus took a 30-0 lead by winning the first seven matches. Junior Christopher Donaldson made quick work of Rob Murray at 125 by earning a pin in 5:32. At 133, sophomore Christina Hoogheem defeated Ryan Wilson in 20 seconds via pin for the 12-0 edge.

At 141, senior Elisha Gaylor defeated Rob Ranalli with a 14-6 major decision as the senior had four takedowns in the third period and had 4:35 in riding time.

At 149, freshman Derek Arnold had a 16-0 technical fall decision over Justin Becker, with the match ending at 6:08.

Junior Richard Jasinski kept it going at 157, as he got a 5-3 decision over Leo Wortman. Jasinski had an escape and a two-point near fall in the second period.

At 165, sophomore Anthony Carlo defeated Colin Navicaks by a 9-4 score, netting four takedowns and 1:40 in riding time. At 174, junior Robert Scaramuzza knocked off Nick Bass.

Ursinus' last points came at 197, as junior Christian Psomas defeated Mark Garrity by pin in 1:51.

Against Hopkins, Ursinus actually trailed after two matches, 6-0, before winning the last eight to take the win.

Gaylor got things started at 141, as he defeated Evan Krumheuer 8-2, followed by Arnold winning 7-0 over Duncan Crystal at 149.

At 157, Jasinski defeated Christian Selera, 3-2 followed by Carlo's win at 165 over Alex McLaughlin 13-6. Scaramuzza picked up at win at 174 over Jared Forman 11-6, followed by junior Daniel Manganaro at 184 winning over Kyle Spangler in overtime 3-2 on an escape.

Psomas would then defeat Evan Johnson, 10-5 at 197 with senior Taylor Gload defeating Joey Tilson at 285, 3-2.

Ursinus heads to McDaniel next week to take on the Green Terror and New York University in another Centennial tri. This will the first meeting between the Bears and NYU since New York University joined the Centennial as an associate in 2012-13. Last year's match was snowed out.
