Wrestling starts off weekend in two different places

The Ursinus College wrestling team opened its 2013-14 season in two different places on Saturday.

Junior Chris Donaldson (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) wrestled at the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic, while the rest of the team started their season at the non-scoring Messiah Invitational.

Starting with Donaldson, he dropped an 8-5 decision to David Terao of American University as part of four exhibition matches to start the Classic.

According to head coach Bill Racich and assistant Pat Curry, Donaldson wrestled well and received a standing ovation after his bout.

"We could not be more proud of him," Racich said afterward. Racich himself was part of an all-star clinic before the match, which featured several standout coaches.

As for the rest of the team, freshman Derek Arnold (Centrevilla, Va./Westfield) won his bracket at 149 pounds, only giving up one point on the day.

Senior Taylor Gload (Parkton, Md./Hereford) was a runner-up at 197 pounds, while freshman Zachary Fisher (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) finished third at 125 pounds.

Ursinus will host the Fall Brawl on Saturday.
