KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Ursinus opened up its Centennial Conference dual meet schedule with two wins on Saturday, as the Bears knocked off Gettysburg 32-12, before holding off Merchant Marine 20-18.

The wins moved Ursinus to 2-0 in the Centennial and 7-1 overall. 

In the Gettysburg match, Ursinus went up 12-0 as sophomore Christopher Donaldson (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum School) pinned Matt Laux in 2:27 at 125, followed by a forfeit win from freshman Danny Ventura (Bedford Hills, N.Y./Fox Lane) at 133.

Senior Curtis Watkins (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ward) scored an 18-9 major decision at 149, followed by another major decision from sophomore Richard Jasinski (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) at 157 over Tyler Cunningham 15-2.

Senior Bill Rieck (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) scored a key 2-1 win over Manny Markantone at 165 in a bout that went two overtimes. 

Ursinus closed the bout with two wins, as sophomore Christian Psomas (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) won at 197 by forfeit and freshman Brandon Russo (Marlboro, N.J./Colts Neck) won his heavyweight bout 1-0 for the 32-12 win.

Against Merchant Marine, Ursinus went out 11-0 after the first two bouts as Donaldson scored a pin of Costas Rerras in 4:55, then Ventura had a tech fall over Thomas Healey at 133 in 6:49 by a 17-1 score.

Watkins won his second bout of the day, downing Bernard Watson 6-4 for a 14-3 lead. Jasinski scored a 3-2 decision over Branden Yeik at 157 for a  17-3 lead, followed by another overtime win from Rieck at 165 over Matt Hiltz, 6-4.

Merchant Marine would win the final four bouts, but, only scored decisions in the final three and could not pull ahead.

Ursinus will be home next Saturday as they host Johns Hopkins and Stevens.
