Wrestling seventh at Citrus Open

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Ursinus finished seventh at the Citrus Open over the Holiday Break with a total of 89 points.

Sophomore Daniel Manganaro (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) finished first in the 184 pound bracket, while sopohomore Richard Jasinski (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) finished third at the 157 pound bracket.

Sopohomore Christopher Donaldson (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) finished fourth at 125 pounds, with a fifth place finish coming from junior Elisha Gaylor (West Reading, PA./Wyomissing) at 141 pounds.

Both senior Curtis Watkins (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ward) at 149 pounds and sophomore Christian Psomas (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) at 197 pounds finished seventh.

Manganaro started his day with a 17-4 major decision over Joe DeGenova of Case Western Reserve. After defeating Jeremy Hathaway from NYU 3-1, he defeated Kevin Stahmer of Cornell College 6-4 in the semifinals. In the finals, Patrick Sheehan of NYU 3-2.

Jasinski started with a bye, then defeated Chad Zeigler of Mount Union 6-2. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Gabriel Gleason of NYU by a 8-0 score.

After falling to Terner Gott of John Carroll 11-8, he won the wrestleback semifinals over Kurt Knutsen of Augsburg 3-1, then defeated James Dugan of Delaware Valley in the third place bout 8-1. 

Donaldson started with a bye, then defeated Josh Hall of Case Western Reserve 6-0. After pinning Chad Bartschenfeld of Augsburg in 1:51, he lost to Charlie Frankel of Delaware Valley 6-5.

In the wrestleback semifinals, he defeated Connor Kirkegard of Delaware Valley, 6-1, then dropped the third place bout 6-1 to Chris Paulus of Upper Iowa.

Gaylor started his trip in the 141 bracket with a 10-0 major decision over Zach Becicka of Cornell College, then defeated Romar Daniel of Augsburg 16-0.

After falling to Matt Paulus of Upper Iowa, 5-3, he defeated Doug Hayes of John Carroll 11-0 in the wrestlebacks. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Duane Richardson of Upper Iowa 7-5, before dropping his match to Bryant Roby of Mount Union 5-1. 

In the fifth place bout, he defeated Jordan Victor of John Carroll 4-0.

Watkins started his day with bye, before falling to Daniel Mirman of John Carroll 17-9.

In the wrestlebacks, he defeated John Connick of John Carroll 7-3, then pinned Mark Akpaka of Augsburg in 2:04. After defeating Reggie Allen of UNC-Pembroke 7-5, he lost to Matthew DiGiovanni of NYU 4-2.

In the seventh-place bout, he defeated Tyler Johnston of Mount Union by pin in 3:57.

Psomas started his journey with a 5-0 win over Bryan Adams of John Carroll, before defeating Rashaad Lighty of Delaware Valley 9-3.

After falling to Carl Broghammer of Upper Iowa in 4:04, he defeated Lucas Dies of Mount Union of 7-0.

After falling to Matthew Hechsel of Augsburg 5-0, he won the seventh-place bout over Sam Galassi of NYU 4-1.
