Wrestling sixth at Petrofes Invitational

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Ursinus College wrestling team finished sixth overall at the two-day Petrofes Invitational hosted by Messiah College with a team score of 93 points.

At 157 pounds, sophomore Richard Jasinski (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) finished second overall, the highest place finisher for the Bears.

At 125 pounds, second-seeded sophomore Christopher Donaldson (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) finished in third place in his bracket while freshman John Morrison (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) finished fourth and Keven Hoogheem (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) finished seventh overall.

At 184 pounds, sophomore Daniel Manganaro (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) was third, while at 141 pounds, third-seeded junior Elisha Gaylor (West Reading, Pa./Wyomissing) finished in fourth-place.

Finally, sophomore Christian Psomas (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) was fifth at the 197 pounds bracket.

Jasinski started his trek with a pin over Dominick Ardo of Wilkes in 2:48, then scored a major decision over Kalann Washington of Messiah by a 10-2 score. In the semifinals, he defeated Logan Yox of McDaniel by an 11-2 major decision before dropping a 6-2 decision to Troy Sterling of Cortland.

Donaldson pinned Dan Palmer of Bridgewater in 2:29, then pinned Kurt Rodriguez of Messiah in 2:44. In the semifinals, he lost to Guesseppe Rea of Wilkes by a 10-5 decision. In the consolation semifinals, he defeated Tom Casper of Springfield by a 17-4 major decision, then defeated teammate Morrison by win in 1:08.

Morrison, who dropped his opening match to top-seeded Mike O'Boyle of McDaniel by a 14-3 major decision, defeated Brett Reed of Bridgewater in the opening round of the wrestlebacks by a tech fall. After pinning Rodriguez in 4:43, he earned a 20-11 major decision over Dan Hoberney of Mount Union.

After earning a medical forfeit over O'Boyle in the consolation semis, he then lost to Donaldson.

Manganaro defeated Anton Serhan of Gettysburg by an 18-4 major decision, then defeated Levi Veppert of Wilkes 2-1. After dropping a match to Josh Thomson of Messiah, he defeated Jeremy Hathaway of Mount Union 3-2. In the consolation finals, he defeated Veppert 3-1 in overtime.

Gaylor started his day with a tech fall over Alex Gosch of Messiah, then dropped a 9-4 decision to Kaleb Loht of Messiah. In the consolation semifinals, he defeated Benjamin Mitchell of McDaniel by tech fall, before falling to Bryant Roby of Mount Union 4-2.

Psomas defeated Jared Schlett of Gettysburg by pin in 2:56, then scored an 11-2 major decision over Michael Case of Springfield. After falling to David Oberrender of Wilkes 11-2.

In the consolations, he defeated Raymond Sturdy of Springfield by pin in 1:44, then scored an 11-1 major decision over Darin Lyles of Mount Union. After dropping a match to Fransico DeCristo of Cortland by pin in 2:19, he won the fifth place bout by medical forfeit.
