COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus women's lacrosse team suffered a 14-7 setback to Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference action at Patterson Field on Saturday afternoon.

Prior to today's contest, the team honored its five seniors: Tori Rubin, Alice Nathanson, Reilly Morgan, Becca Lewis, and Jill Verrelle. With the loss, the Bears fall to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Mules improved to 7-1 overall and 1-1 in conference action.

First-year Maeve Leonzi got things started for the Bears at the 13:13-mark of the first quarter with a free position shot goal to give Ursinus an early 1-0 lead. The Mules responded with a free position shot goal of their own just under two minutes later to tie the game at one after the Bears turned it over. Sophomore Gabrielle Liott put the Bears back in front 2-1 at the 8:46-mark after snatching a wide shot attempt, but that would be the final goal Ursinus scored in the first half. The Mules closed the first half with nine-straight goals to go up 10-2 behind out-scoring the Bears 6-0 in the second quarter. Muhlenberg used a 6-1 advantage in draw controls in the second quarter to maintain most of the possession.

The Bears once again scored the first goal of the new half as first-year Julia McCann found the back of the net at the 11:57-mark of the third quarter. Liott found an open first-year Andrea Hook on a free position attempt to cut the lead down to 10-4, but the Mules slammed the door on any potential rally by scoring three-straight goals in the final 1:01 of the third quarter. Morgan netted her first goal on the Bears first possession of the fourth quarter to make it a 13-5 game and Leonzi cut the deficit to 13-6 at the 6:48-mark. Rubin grabbed a tightly contested ground ball following an initial shot from Morgan to keep the possession alive. Each team added one last goal in the quarter as Morgan netted her second of the contest with 1:34 left in regulation off a great feed from Liott.

The Mules held a 37-31 shot advantage for the game and a 22-14 edge in shots on goal. Ursinus had a slight 26-25 edge in ground balls while Muhlenberg had a 13-12 advantage in draw controls. Junior goalkeeper Alexa Machado suffered the loss for the Bears after making eight saves during the full 60 minutes. Ellison Ervin earned the win in net for the Mules after making seven saves during the entire 60 minutes. Liott led the Bears with five points behind four assists and one goal while Morgan and Leonzi each posted two goals apiece. Areilla Lerner paced the Mules with a game-high three goals and four points.

Ursinus will return to action on Wednesday, April 6th as they will face Swarthmore at 7 p.m. for the Anita Deasey Memorial Cup Game.
