Grous, Sherry Named All-CC in Women's Lacrosse

2016 All-CC Women's Lacrosse Team

LANCASTER, Pa. – Two members of the Ursinus College women's lacrosse team were named to the All-Centennial Conference Team released by the league office this morning.

Junior defender Lisa Grous was selected to the first team, while freshman midfielder Bridget Sherry earned second team recognition and became the first player in program history to be chosen Rookie of the Year. The all-conference squad was voted upon by the league's head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players.

Grous collected her second all-conference laurel in as many years, ascending to the first team after a second team nod a year ago. The top defender on a Bears group that finished 8-8 overall and 4-5 in CC play, Grous was second on the team in ground balls (29), draw controls (43), and caused turnovers (16). Appearing in all 16 contests with 15 starts, Grous turned in nine games with at least three draws and six with at least three ground balls. Her top performance came in a 12-8 loss at Washington College, when she racked up four grounders, three draw controls, and a season-best three caused turnovers. Grous registered her 100th career draw control in a 14-8 victory over Muhlenberg in the season finale and needs just four more ground balls to reach 100.

Sherry established herself as one of the school's top two-sport athletes after also receiving second team all-conference recognition as a key member of the Bears' Final Four field hockey program. Fittingly, the rookie was a two-way dynamo in the Ursinus midfield, topping the team in ground balls (33), draw controls (45), and caused turnovers (21) in addition to providing 13 goals and eight assists, good for second on the squad in helpers and tied for third in points (21).

Sherry, who started all 16 games in 2016, made her presence felt from the first draw of the season, going off for a goal and an assist to complement four ground balls, four draw controls, and four caused turnovers in a season-opening rout of Cabrini; the four caused turnovers were the most by a Bear in three years. Sherry posted multiple goals in three contests, including a three-goal, one-assist outburst at Haverford on April 27. She had a goal and four caused turnovers at third-ranked TCNJ and exploded for seven draws in the finale against Muhlenberg.

Additionally, senior Jessica Hill was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team and joined sophomores Taylor DeBernardi and Meaghan Corbin on the CC's Spring Academic Honor Roll.
