Women's Lacrosse Falls To Washington College 8-7

2nd Half Rally Falls Short

The Women's Lacrosse team rallied back from a 7-4 halftime deficit but came up one goal short and fell to the Shorewomen of Washington College 8-7.

Washington started quickly when sophomore midfielder Ali Dudley (New Windsor, MD) found the back of the net to give the Shorewomen a 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later senior attackman Caroline Lovett (Lancaster, PA) scored to extend the lead to 2-0 in favor of Washington College.

However, Ursinus would not go quietly into the night and senior midfielder Kitty Dawson (Hillsborough, NJ) made sure of that. Dawson tallied two goals in the span of five minutes to tie the game at 3-3.

From there though Washington College ran off four straight goals to extend their lead to 7-3. Led by senior midfielder Emily Hubley (West Chester, PA) who tallied two goals in that stretch. Dawson once again came to the Bears rescue and tallied a late 1st half goal to make it 7-4 heading into the break.

The second half was a back and forth battle of possession with Washington firing shot after shot but junior goalie Margaret Philbin (Danbury, CT) stood tall recording 13 saves on the night, eight in the 2nd half.

The Bears were able to tally a late goal to pull within one, 8-7, when freshmen attackman Julia Fleming (Glenside, PA) found the back of the net with 36 seconds left to play. However, it was not meant to be as Washington won the draw and ran out the clock to escape with the win.

The loss dropped the Bears to 2-8 overall and 1-2 in the Centennial Conference while Washington College moved to 5-3 and 1-1 in the Centennial. Ursinus will travel to Bryn Mawr on Saturday April 4th for a 1:00 PM start against the Owls.
