Women's Lacrosse downs Widener, 9-6

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – On the wings of three goals by Ursinus' sophomore midfielder Amy Kohout (West Deptford, N.J./Gloucester Catholic), the Bears (1-5) sailed into the win column with a 9-6 win over Widener (1-3) at Patterson Field Wednesday night.

Senior midfielder Kitty Dawson (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) and sophomore attack Emma Ebert (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) each had two goals in the win, as the Bears scored 12 Pride turnovers.

Widener was led by three goals from Kelsey Powell, with Kristen Bate having a goal and an assist.

The Bears put the game away by going on a 5-0 run, after falling behind 2-1. The Bears went up by as much as five goals in the contest, with Kohout's second goal of the game at 20:46 giving the Bears an 8-3 lead.

Trailing 2-1, Ebert scored her first goal of the game at 14:51 on a free position shot to tie the score at 2-all. Dawson then scored her first goal of the game at 11:20 to give the Bears a 3-2 lead. Dawson would return the favor with 2:04 left in the half, as she made a quick pass to junior midfielder Mary Deliberti (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) who fired it into the cage for a 4-2 lead.

Dawson would strike again, scoring with one minute left in the half for a 5-2 lead at intermission.

Kohout would end the scoring run with a goal 1:16 into the second half for a 6-2 lead.

Freshman midfielder Franny Liberatoscioli (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) had two caused turnovers for the Bears, while junior goalkeeper Margaret Philbin (Danbury, Conn./Ridgefield) had nine saves.

Ursinus enters Centennial Conference play on Saturday at Swarthmore.
