Rowan outlasts WLax, 11-9

GLASSBORO, N.J. – A back-and-forth match between Rowan and Ursinus went to the Profs as Rowan (1-0) scored two goals in the final eight minutes in an 11-9 win over the Bears (0-2) on Wednesday afternoon in women's lacrosse action.

For Ursinus, senior midfielder Kitty Dawson (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) and sophomore attack Emma Ebert (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) each scored three goals, while sophomore midfielder Amy Kohout (West Deptford, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) had two goals and two assists in the loss. Ebert also threw in two assists on the day.

Ursinus led 4:54 in when Kohout scored her first goal of the day on an assist by freshman attack Taylor DeBernardi (Springfield, Pa./Springfield), before Rowan tied the score one minute later on a goal by Becca Wood.

Dawson scored her first goal of the game at 19:29 which tied the score at 2-all before Rowan went up by two goals and led 5-4 at the half.

Trailing 6-4 with 26 minutes left in the game, Ursinus tied the score at 6-all when Dawson and Kohout scored on back-to-back free position shots. However, the Bears could not retake the lead as Rowan went back up by two. Ursinus got as close at 8-7 when Ebert scored on a Kohout assist at 15 minutes even.

Sophomore goalkeeper Margaret Philbin (Danbury, Conn./Ridgefield) made ten saves, while freshman midfielder Franny Liberatoscioli (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) had five groundballs. Sophomore defender Lisa Grous (Washington Township, N.J./Bishop Eustace) and junior midfielder Mary Deliberti (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) each had three draw controls in the match.
