Gettysburg pulls away from WLax, 17-8

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus gave sixth-ranked Gettysburg all it could handle on Saturday, as the Bears lead during the early part of the first before the Bullets (11-1, 6-0 Centennial) defeated Ursinus (7-5, 2-3 Centennial) 17-8 in women's lacrosse action.

For Ursinus, freshman Jayme Verman scored three goals and had two assists on the day, with junior Kitty Dawson netting two goals.

Gettysburg was led by four goals from Loren Pruitt and three goals from Bridget Kenny.

Ursinus took an early 2-0 lead on goals by senior Amber Moyer and Dawson, the latter coming with 25:02 left in the first when Dawson scored on an assist from Verman for a 2-0 lead. The Bullets would score the next two goals, before Ursinus took its last lead at 3-2 when Dawson scored on an assist from Verman at 22:01.

Gettysburg would then score the next six goals, with Kenny's goal at 3:30 on a Pruitt assist capping the run and giving the Bullets a 8-3 lead. 

Leading 8-4 at intermission, Gettysburg would score four of the next five goals to take a commanding 12-5 lead. 

Individually, sophomore Brynn Dietzel had three ground balls, while senior Caroline Cannon, Verman and freshman defender Lisa Grous each had two draw controls. 

In goal, sophomore Margaret Philbin made ten saves. 

Ursinus heads to F&M on Wednesday.
