Women's Lacrosse holds off Rowan, 10-8

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's lacrosse team got four goals from freshman midfielder Jayme Verman and three more from sophomore midfielder Devin Brakel as the Bears (3-1) fought off a tough Rowan team, 10-8, on Wednesday afternoon at Patterson Field. 

The Bears withstood a late 3-0 Rowan run to take the win, their second at home and second in three days. 

Sophomore midfielder Mary Deliberti had two goals, with Verman getting two assists. 

Rowan was led by Becca Wood with three goals, while Jamie Blondina had two goals for the Profs. 

Trailing 3-2 with 17:44 left, Ursinus went on a 5-0 run to go out 7-3. After Deliberti tied the score with a free position goal at 13:12, Verman and Brakel alternated scoring the next four goals, the last coming from Brakel at 7:14 on an assist from freshman midfielder Amy Kohout.

Rowan would add two more goals to cut the Ursinus lead to 7-5, before a goal from freshman midfielder Emma Ebert with just two seconds left in the half gave Ursinus an 8-5 advantage at the half. 

Verman scored her fourth goal of the game at 21:25 for a 9-5 lead, followed by Deliberti's second goal at 18:14 for the 10-5 lead. 

Ursinus also got an outstanding game from sophomore goalkeeper Margaret Philbin as she made 15 saves on 27 shots, including several point-blank saves in front of her. She ended up with a game-high nine groundballs, while freshman defender Lisa Grous had four. Grous also had two caused turnovers. 

Ursinus is off till Tuesday, when they travel to Widener.
