COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus senior attack Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) had five goals, including one with 3:14 left to go that helped to give Ursinus (8-6, 4-3 Centennial) a 15-13 shoot out win over McDaniel (6-8, 3-5 Centennial) Saturday afternoon in women's lacrosse play.
The win helped Ursinus inch one step closer to the Centennial Conference playoffs.
Junior attack Lauren Garganio (Medford, N.J./Shawnee), senior attack Emily Diehl (Lebanon, N.J./Voorhees) and sophomore midfielder Nicole Kovacs (Sewell, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) each had two goals for the Bears, while Garganio added in two assists.
Ursinus never trailed in the contest, but, never led by more than three goals as the Green Terror kept answering Ursinus. Paige Messersmith had five goals for the Green Terror and an assist.
Leading 9-6 at intermission, Ursinus saw McDaniel rallied back to within one at 9-8, before the Green Terror would eventually tie the score at 11-all with 14:15 left on a free position shot by Monica Parcell.
With the score tied at 12-all, Then scored with 7:23 left to give Ursinus a 13-12, followed by a goal from Garganio at 4:01 for a 14-12 lead.
Thren's goal, her 43rd of the season, gave Ursinus the 15-12 lead with 3:14 left.
Individually, Thren had two forced turnovers, five draw controls and two ground balls.
In goal, sophomore Riley Pembroke (Great Falls, Va./Langley) had 11 saves.
Ursinus hosts Haverford on Wednesday.
