Irondi Named CC Rookie of the Year

LANCASTER, PA. - After a breakout rookie season, Ursinus College women's basketball forward Chinwe Irondi was named Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year and netted a first team spot on the All-CC team released Wednesday morning by the league office.

She becomes just the fourth first-year student in conference history and first since 2008 to be named to the first team. Irondi becomes the second Bear to receive Rookie of the Year, joining former teammate Lydia Konstanzer.

Irondi earned the laurels after a sensational rookie season in which she led Ursinus in scoring (15.2 PPG, 4th in CC), rebounding (9.9 RPG, 4th in CC), and field goal percentage (43.8, 4th in CC). She ranked within the league's top 10 in all three categories while adding 41 steals and 22 blocks. Irondi registered ten doubles-doubles, including a 22-point, 20-rebound outburst against Muhlenberg on February 16 and an 18-point, 15-rebound effort against Haverford on January 13.

She scored double figures in 21 of 25 games this season and recorded double-digit rebounds in 11 contests. Irondi closed the season on a high note, over the final six games she averaged 16.5 points and 12.2 rebounds.

Additionally, junior Margrett Brown was named to the all-sportsmanship team.
