Women's Hoops Cruises Past Owls

BRYN MAWR, PA. - An outstanding all-around performance led the Ursinus College Women's Basketball team to an 80-27 Centennial Conference victory over Bryn Mawr.  

The Bears offense came out scorching hot, outscoring Bryn Mawr 22-2 in the second quarter, leading them to their fourth conference victory this season. Ursinus was led on offense by Sophomore guard Natalie Mehl who scored a game-high and season high 16 points, behind an impressive 4 of 8 from behind the three-point line. First-year forward Chinwe Irondi added 11 points and tallied 6 rebounds for the Bears.  

The Bears jumped out an early lead after Mehl connected from deep on their opening possession. The Owls made back-to-back jump shots to make the score 4-3 at the 8:15 mark. Irondi tied the score at five a piece after an offensive rebound and a layup fell home. Alison Lisanti followed up with a three-pointer to give the Bears an 8-5 lead at the 4:10 mark. After Bryn Mawr answered with a three-pointer of their own, Kelly Grant gave Ursinus an 11-8 lead with two minutes to play in the first. The Owls would trim their deficit to just one and end the first quarter trailing 11-10.  

Mehl started off the second quarter draining threes for Ursinus. With the Bears leading 13-10, Mehl connected from deep on three consecutive possessions to give Ursinus a 22-10 lead at the 7:25 mark. Mehl and Sarah DiLello combined for the next six points, which gave Ursinus a commanding 28-10 lead with 5:36 to play in the half. After the Owls answered with a layup on the following possession, Ursinus closed the first half with a 5-0 run to secure a 33-12 lead at the break.  

To start the third quarter, after securing an offensive rebound Irondi earned a layup and gave the Bears a 23-point lead. Later in the third quarter, Lisanti and Gabby Downs connected on three-pointers to make the score 43-15 with 7:06 remaining. Ursinus went on a 21-1 run to close out the third quarter and controlled a 64-16 lead after three quarters.  

In the fourth quarter, Kylie McNicholas started to heat up, scoring the Bears' first seven points of the quarter. The Bears defense would hold Bryn Mawr to just 40% from the field in the last frame and earned an 80-27 victory. Ursinus shot 52.5% (32-61) from the field and scorching 41.4% from behind the three-point line. The Bears defense forced 21 turnovers during the contest and recorded 37 points from turnovers.  

The Bears will return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Muhlenberg for a 6pm tip in Allentown.
