Konstanzer Tabbed CC Co-Player of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. – After a pair of monster performances in the first starts of her career, Ursinus College freshman Lydia Konstanzer has been selected as the Centennial Conference Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week, it was announced Monday. Konstanzer shared the honor with Dickinson's Helen Roberts.

Konstanzer put up huge numbers in a 1-1 week for the Bears, who routed Swarthmore on Wednesday before suffering an 82-65 setback at the hands of two-time defending champion Muhlenberg on Saturday. The rookie averaged 24.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game and shot 64.5 percent from the field, fueled by a record-setting effort in a 64-47 victory over the Garnet.

Konstanzer exploded for 32 points and 10 rebounds, setting the program record for points by a freshman and registering her second double-double in a span of three outings. The freshman phenom finished 13 of 22 from the floor in her first collegiate start and notched the highest scoring game by a Bear since 1998, also adding two assists and two steals. She followed with a 17-point, nine-rebound performance at Muhlenberg, making 7 of 9 field goals and all three of her free throws.

Konstanzer has scored at least 15 points in four straight games, averaging 20.0 points and 9.5 boards per contest during that stretch. She is shooting 57.6 percent (38 of 66) in those four games and has bumped her team-leading averages to 12.9 points and 6.9 rebounds on the season. Konstanzer also leads the Bears in field-goal percentage at .490.

The women's basketball team is currently 4-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Bears have some time off before they head to Daytona Beach, Florida for the Land of Magic Classic during the last week of December. Ursinus will face Maine Maritime on December 28 and Susquehanna on December 29.
