Porada nets 1,000th career point

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus junior forward Jessica Porada (Morristown, N.J./Morris Catholic) scored 25 points, including her 1,000th career point, but the Bears (6-11 Centennial, 8-16) dropped a 70-62 hard fought game to Haverford (13-4 Centennial, 15-9) in women's basketball play on Wednesday night.

Porada scored her 1,000th career point with 8:18 left in the second half for the Bears, which actually put her at 1,001 points in her career. She needed 20 coming into tonight's contest. Junior guard Alyssa Polimeni (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston Regional) had 17 points for Ursinus, while junior forward Elana Roadcloud (Roslyn, Pa./Springside School) chipped in with ten.

For Haverford, Sierra Berkel had a career-high 19 points, with Elizabeth Lynch and Jacqueline Pizzuto each scoring 17.

The Fords took an early 11-2 lead with 16:56 left in the first half, before Ursinus fought back to within one at 15-14 with 11:33 left on a layup by Porada. Haverford was able to pull back out to within eight at 26-18 with 7:22 left on a layup by Walsh.

Still, Ursinus kept fighting back with a three-pointer from freshman guard Rachel Guy (Chadds Ford, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) with 5:25 left putting the Bears to within three at 29-26.

Trailing 34-30 at intermission, the Bears go up seven early at 39-32, before going on a 8-0 run to take a 40-39 lead with 12:24 left on a foul shot by Porada.

With the score tied at 44-all, Haverford took the lead for good with a 12-2 run over a five minute span to go up 56-46 and the Fords never looked back.

Haverford had a slight edge on the glass at 37-36, with Berkel grabbing ten for the Fords and Porada nine for the Bears.

Ursinus closes the season on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Muhlenberg.
