Women's Basketball downs F&M, 80-74

LANCASTER, Pa. – Four players in scored in double figures for Ursinus, as the Bears (8-14, 6-9 Centennial) defeated Franklin & Marshall (5-17, 2-13 Centennial) 80-74 in women's basketball play at the Mayser Center on Wednesday night.

Ursinus, who snapped a two-game skid, got 26 points from junior forward Jessica Porada (Morristown, N.J./Morris Catholic) who shot 10-for-17 from the field and grabbed 12 rebounds. Junior guard Alyssa Polimeni (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston Regional) scored 17, with freshman forward Allie Cook (North Reading, Mass./Buckingham, Brown & Nichols) scoring 15.

Sophomore guard Olivia Kane (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) scored ten for the Bears.

F&M was led by 22 points from freshman forward Erica Brown, who also had a game-high 14 rebounds.

Ursinus led early as the Bears took a 9-2 lead with 17:48 left on a three-point jumper by Polimeni. The Bears would maintain the lead throughout the first half, until the Diplomats made a late push with 1:09 left to get within two. A layup by sophomore forward Sarah Haddon got the score to 35-33.

However, two foul shots by Porada with 47 seconds left gave the Bears a four-point lead at 37-33. Porada would make a layup with 11 seconds left to make the halftime edge six for Ursinus at 39-33.

In the second half, F&M got to within one at 46-45 when freshman guard Anajha Burnett made a layup with 13:38. The Diplomats would hang around, and eventually gained the lead at 56-55 with 9:05 left on a layup by Brown.

Ursinus then outscored the Diplomats 13-7 over the next 3:06, paced by two three-pointers from Kane. Kane's second three-pointer, with 5:59 left, gave the Bears a 69-62 lead. From there, F&M would only get to within one at 69-68 but the Bears would not relinquish the lead.

Ursinus had a 45-42 edge on the glass, with Porada's 12 and 11 from junior forward Elana Roadcloud (Roslyn, Pa./Springside School) leading the way. Polimeni had seven assists for the Bears, who go to Washington College on Saturday.
