COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus College junior forward Jessica Porada scored a team-high 19 points, while junior forward Caroline Shimrock added in ten as the Bears (6-8, 5-3 Centennial) scored a 51-48 win over Gettysburg (10-3, 5-3 Centennial) in women's basketball action on Thursday.
The Bears made just five turnovers in the win, while junior guard Alyssa Polimeni had ten assists.
For Gettysburg, Emily Gibbons scored 23 points on 11-for-20 shooting with Samantha Pagel adding in nine.
Down six with 8:12 left in the game, Ursinus outscored the Bullets 15-7 over the final 8:12 and held the Bullets to just one field goal during that span. Tied at 47-all with 3:42 left, Ursinus took the lead for good on a foul shot by Hannah Kelly and then got a layup from Porada with 2:44 left to go up 50-47.
A foul shot from Jenna Swope got Gettysburg back within two at 50-48 with 1:28 left. Following an Ursinus turnover, Gettysburg the ball with under a minute left but turned it over with 46 seconds left.
After Porada made 1-of-2 foul shots with eight seconds left, Gettysburg got the ball and inbounded in on the baseline with three seconds left following a time out. A three-pointer by Gibbons on the right side rimmed out as the horn sounded.
In the first half, it was all Ursinus as the Bears led by as much as ten points with 15:22 left in the half when Porada hit a layup with 15:22 left for a 10-2 lead. Leading 14-4, Ursinus saw Gettysburg got on a 13-2 run to take a 17-16 lead with 4:10 left on a three-pointer by Gibbons.
Three straight points gave the Bears the lead at 20-17 with 3:07 left, a lead that would grow to five at intermission at 24-19.
Gettysburg won the battle on the glass at 47-31 with Gibbons picking up nine Porada had eight for the Bears.
Ursinus heads to Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
