Women's Basketball rallies against TCNJ, 63-52

YORK, Pa - In the Coaches Vs. Cancer Classic, the Ursinus women's basketball team rallied in the second half to defeat TCNJ, Saturday afternoon at York College.  The Bears open the season 1-0 picking up a solid non conference win against TCNJ, picked second in the NJAC preseason coaches poll.

Ursinus was lead by junior forward Jessica Porada recording a double-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds and two assists. Gina Pownall also recorded a solid performance with 14 points, four assists and two steals.

In a defensive struggle, the Bears held a slim lead 23-21, but the Lions would finish the remaining three minutes on a 9-2 run behind key shooting from the field. Ursinus going into the break down 30-25.

Opening the second half the Bears closed the gap making it 29-30, but two clutch shots from behind the arch from TNCJ junior Kelly Coughlin, put the Bears down even further.

Down 29-36 the Bears went on a 12-5 run with Porada contributing six points to tie up the game with 14:31 in the second half.

The Bears were able to finish off the Lions outscoring TCNJ 22-11 in the final minutes to open their season with a win.

The Bears move on to the next round of the Coaches Vs. Cancer Classic tomorrow at York College.
