Women's Basketball drops 2014 opener to DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Despite shooting better than 50 percent from the field during the game (29-for-57), the Ursinus College women's basketball team dropped its 2014 debut to DeSales by a 77-65 score.

For Ursinus (5-4), the Bears were led by 13 points from freshman forward Libby Lannon and 11 points from sophomore forward Jessica Porada. Ursinus also got nine points off the bench from sophomore forward Tori Steinberg in the loss.

DeSales was led by 25 points from Alexiah Grant and 21 points from guard Sondrine Glovas. Forward Megan Gallagher also added in 13 points and ten rebounds.

Ursinus led quickly at the tip, after Porada scored the game's first basket on layup 10 seconds in for a 2-0 lead. Ursinus then trailed, but, got back within two at 8-6 on another layup by Porada before the Bulldogs pulled away on a 9-3 run and led the rest of the way.

Lannon finished with seven rebounds for the Bears, while Porada had six.

Ursinus heads back to the Lehigh Valley next week, taking on Moravian on Tuesday at 7.
