Shining Like A Diamond

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus senior guard Diamond Lewis finished with a game-high 20 points, including a runner down the middle of the lane to send the game to overtime, as the Bears (3-2 Centennial, 4-3) defeated McDaniel (2-2 Centennial, 5-3) 82-79 in overtime during a Centennial Conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon.

Lewis finished 7-for-11 from the field and had four assists as the Bears and Green Terror swapped the lead 14 times.

Sophomore forward Caroline Shimrock had 19 points with freshman forward Libby Lannon scoring 14. Sophomore forward Jessica Porada scored 12 points and grabbed ten rebounds for a double-double.

McDaniel was led by 16 points off the bench by sophomore guard Lindsay Nichols and 14 points from sophomore guard Brittney Davis.

The Green Terror led late down the stretch, including a three-point lead with 41 seconds left when Davis made 1-of-2 foul shots for a 67-64 lead. After Lannon made a layup with 40 seconds left, freshman guard Gianna Powell forced a turnover.

The Bears were not able to capitalize, but, McDaniel senior guard Cody McMaster only made 1-of-2 foul shots with five seconds left. Lewis then got the ball, drove down the middle of the floor and let go of the shot with just .5 seconds left to send the game to overtime. 

In the extra frame, Ursinus went 4-for-5 from the field and took a three-point lead with 26 seconds left when Lewis hit a foul shot to go up 80-77. From there,

McDaniel got back within one but, Lewis hit two more foul shots with five seconds left. A three-pointer by Lewis went wide as the time expired.

Ursinus takes the week off for finals, then hosts Immaculata next Wednesday, December 18, at 6 p.m.
