HAVERFORD, Pa. – With Ursinus needing every possible win to stay alive in the Centennial Conference playoff race, the Bears (11-11, 8-9 Centennial) scored a key victory on Wednesday night as they defeated Haverford (14-8, 11-7 Centennial) 52-50 on the Main Line
With the score tied at 45-all with 3:26 left, Ursinus got four straight foul shots from junior forward Devin Butchko (Cream Ridge, N.J./Villa Victoria Academy) and a basket from freshman forward Caroline Shimrock (Lansdale, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) with 51 seconds left to go up five at 50-45.
From there, the Bears were able to hold on for the final 51 seconds as the Fords could only get within one at 51-50.
The Bears were able to rally back from five-point halftime deficit that ballooned to as high as seven points to take the win.
Leading the way for Ursinus was Shimrock who had a game-high 13 points, with junior guard Diamond Lewis (East Windsor, N.J./Stuart Country Day) grabbing ten points and nine rebounds along with seven assists.
Haverford got ten points from Dominique Meeks in the loss.
Ursinus owned a 44-37 lead on the glass.
