Muhlenberg downs WBB, 67-48

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's basketball team (8-9, 5-7 Centennial) was tripped up in a key Centennial Conference match-up Tuesday evening at Helfferich Hall at the hands of the Mules of Muhlenberg College (11-6, 8-4 Centennial) by a score of 67-48.

The Bears were led by freshman forward Caroline Shimrock (Lansdale, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy), who netted 21 points and grabbed eight boards in the contest.  Freshman guard Alyssa Polimeni (Berkely Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston Regional High School) contributed eight points.  Junior forward Devin Butchko (Cream Ridge, N.J./Cream Ridge Academy) scored seven in the effort.

Freshman forward Jessica Porada (Morristown, N.J./Morris Catholic) led the Bears on the boards, netting six defensive rebounds and four offensive.
Poor shooting plagued the Bears from the start, for they shot just over 18 percent from the field in the first half of play, going into the intermission down 31-17.  Muhlenberg, meanwhile, shot just over 41 percent in the first half of play, sinking 14-of-34 attempts.

A hot start to the second half of competition would bring the Bears within eight with just over seventeen minutes remaining in the contest.

The Mules, who placed two scorers in double-figures and had five more participants contributed five or more points in the contest, never looked back.  Over the course of the second half of play the Bears would improve their field-goal percentage to just over thirty-three percent while the Mules shot just under forty-seven percent.

Despite the difference, Ursinus was only outscored by five in the second half.

The Bears return to action Saturday, hosting the Red Devils of Dickinson College.  Tip is set for 1:00 pm.
