Swarthmore stops WBB, 67-52

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Swarthmore put three players in double figures, and had a 48-33 lead on the boards as the first-place Garnet (13-2, 9-1 Centennial) defeated Ursinus (8-7, 5-5 Centennial) 67-52 Thursday night in women's basketball play. 

The game was the first end of a rare home-and-home series, as the two teams will play again on Saturday in Collegeville.

Swarthmore was led by 21 points from guard Madeline Ross, while guard Katie Lytle had 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. 

Ursinus got 13 points from junior guard Diamond Lewis (East Windsor, N.J./Stuart Country Day), while freshman guard Alyssa Polimeni (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) and junior forward Devin Butchko (Cream Ridge, N.J./Villa Victoria Academy) each had 12.

Swarthmore also was 24-for-34 from the foul line (70.6 percent), while Ursinus was 6-for-13 from the stripe in the game. 

Ursinus led early as a three-pointer by senior Amber Yacenda (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) sank a three-pointer 3:43 in for a 10-5 lead. That was the Bears' biggest lead of the game.

Swarthmore took the lead for good with 14:06 left as Eliza Polli sank a three for a 15-13 lead. From there Swarthmore, 36-24 at half and led by as much as 16 points.
