Women's Basketball defeats F&M in OT, 81-72

LANCASTER, Pa. – Ursinus rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to force overtime and eventually take an 81-72 win over Franklin & Marshall on Thursday afternoon in women's basketball play. 

The win pushed Ursinus to 5-3 in the Centennial and 8-5 overall.

Junior guard Diamond Lewis (East Windsor, N.J./Stuart Country Day) scored a game-high 26 points on 11-for-13 shooting while grabbing a team-high nine rebounds. 

Freshman forward Jessica Porada (Morristown, N.J./Morris Catholic) scored 22 points for the Bears, with freshman guard Alyssa Polimeni (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) throwing in 18 points.

Alexa Barbush had 23 points for the Diplomats (4-9, 1-7 Centennial), while Kristina McCarthy scoring 17. 

F&M and Ursinus traded leads in the first half, before the Diplomats scored the final 11 points of the first half over the last 7:20 to take a 36-27 halftime lead.

In the second half, Ursinus trailed by as much as ten (48-38) before going on a 11-0 run capped by a three-point play from Lewis with 6:19 left to go up 49-48. 

After F&M regained the lead, Ursinus would go up one at 60-59 with 67 seconds left on a layup by Porada. Following a free throw from McCarthy, which tied the score at 60-all, Porada would make another jumper with three seconds left for a 2-point lead at 62-60. McCarthy would sink a layup at the buzzer to force the extra period.

Ursinus outscored F&M 15-4 over the first 3:50 of the overtime to pull away. 

Both Polimeni and Lewis had six assists, while Porada grabbed seven rebounds.

Ursinus will travel to McDaniel on Saturday.
