Women's Basketball drops overtime match to Johns Hopkins, 70-61

BALTIMORE, Md. – Johns Hopkins outscored Ursinus 13-4 in the extra period Saturday afternoon as the Blue Jays (3-5, 1-3 Centennial) defeated Ursinus (4-2, 2-1 Centennial) 70-61 in women's basketball action.

The Blue Jays held Ursinus to just one field goal in the overtime in snapping Ursinus' four-game winning streak.

Johns Hopkins was led by Alex Vasilla who had 22 points and 20 rebounds in the win. JHU outrebounded Ursinus 60-46 on the day.

Ursinus got 13 points from freshman forward Tori Steinberg (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South), while junior guard Diamond Lewis (East Windsor, N.J./Stuart Country Day) had 12 points.

Senior forward Amber Yacenda (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) had 11 points, with freshman forward Caroline Shimrock (Lansdale, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy), freshman forward Jessica Porada (Morristown, N.J./Morris Catholic) and freshman guard Alyssa Polimeni (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston Regional) each scoring seven. Porada grabbed 14 rebounds in the loss for the Bears.

Ursinus led by as much as 13 in the first half, before taking a four-point lead into intermission at 34-30. In the second half, Hopkins opened the second stanza with a 12-1 run to take a 42-35 lead with 15:21 left.

Ursinus fought back to within two twice, then trailed by three with 30 seconds left on a foul shot 57-54. Steinberg hit a three with 27 seconds left to force the extra period.

Lewis finished with seven assists and four steals in the loss.

Ursinus travels to Washington on Tuesday.
