SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's basketball team used the power of the three-point line Saturday night as the Bears (1-1) sank 11 three-pointers in a 59-54 win over Cortland (1-1) at the 24th Annual Pepsi Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Susquehanna University.

The Bears made seven three-pointers in the second half, four of which came from freshman forward Tori Steinberg (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) who finished with a team-high 12 points.

Freshman guard Alyssa Polimeni (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston Regional) finsiehd with ten points, while junior guard Diamond Lewis (East Windsor, N.J./Stuart Country Day) and freshman forward Jessica Porada (Morristown, N.J./Morris Catholic) each finished with nine.

For Cortland, freshman guard Shannon White had a game-high 14 points, with sophomore guard Brooke DeMarco scoring 11. The Red Dragons were hampered by 28 turnovers, which the Bears converted to 31 points. DeMarco finished with ten rebounds, as did Porada.

Ursinus looked like the Bears were going to run away with it early, as they jumped out to a 10-0 with 16:51 left in the first on a pair of foul shots by junior forward Devin Butchko (Cream Ridge, N.J./Villa Victoria).  

The Red Dragons responded with an 11-0 run of their own to take the lead on a basket by DeMarco. Both teams would trade three-point leads, before Cortland went up 23-22 at intermission.

In the second half, Coryland took its largest lead at 33-28 on a foul shot by junior forward Grace Williamson with 13:39 left. From there, Ursinus outscored the Red Dragons 13-5 to go up 43-38 on a jumper by senior forward Amber Yacenda (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) with 9:12 left.

After Cortland cut it to two, Ursinus responded by a 12-2 run to put the game out of reach, as they led 55-43 with 2:55 to go on a jumper by Porada.

Ursinus will be making their first appearance in the title game since 1989, when they lost to Otterbein.
