Women's Basketball falls to F&M in Centennial first round, 61-49

LANCASTER, Pa. – Hampered by cold shooting, the Ursinus College women's basketball team saw its run in the 2011 Centennial Conference tournament come to an end on Wednesday night in a 61-49 loss to Franklin & Marshall at the Mayser Center.

The fifth-seeded Bears shot just 14.8 percent in the first half and finished the game with a 23.8 percent shooting percentage (15-for-63)

Ursinus was led by junior forward Lindsay Teuber (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil's) who had 14 points, while senior guard Jaclyn Hilf (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) added in eight. Sophomore forward Amber Yacenda (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) scored nine off the bench.

For the Diplomats, who will advance to face Johns Hopkins, sophomore guard Elizabeth Snyder had 18 points off the bench, while junior guard Megan Pauley had 13 points and 13 rebounds. F&M had a 54-39 lead on the glass.

Ursinus did take an early three point lead, the last instance coming with 15:01 left in the opening half as Hilf hit a basket to give the Bears a 7-4 lead. From that point, Ursinus would be outscored by the Diplomats by a 15-4 count as the Diplomats stretched the lead out to 19-11.

The Bears were hampered by cold first half shooting, making just one field goal over a 6:43 span. That allowed the Diplomat to get up by as much as 12 points.

Trailing 11 at intermission, the Bears would get within nine several times early in the second half but could not close the deficit.

Wednesday's game marked the final contest for Hilf and senior center Alex Shivers (Pine Beach, N.J./Toms River South). Shivers finished with a team-high seven rebounds in 21 minutes.
