Women's Basketball outlasts Haverford, 59-55, in overtime

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Ursinus outscored Haverford, 9-4, in the first overtime as the Bears (14-8, 10-7 Centennial) defeated the Fords (9-13, 6-11 Centennial) 59-55 Wednesday night in women's basketball action.

The win, coupled with losses by Washington and F&M, gave Ursinus a one-game lead over the Diplomats in the race for the fourth seed in the upcoming playoffs with three conference games remaining. The fourth seed guarantees a first-round home game in the Centennial playoffs.

For Ursinus, junior forward Lindsay Teuber (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil's) had a game-high 26 points and a game-high 14 rebounds with freshman forward Sarah Martin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) throwing in 13.

Haverford was led by sophomore forward Dominique Meeks with 21 while sophomore guard Nina Voith added in 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The key in the overtime period was the foul line as Ursinus was 7-for-12 (58.3 percent) from the line in the extra frame. Those 12 attempts were more than double than the Bears had in the first 40 minutes, as the Bears did not attempt a foul shot in the first half.

After Haverford took an early lead, Ursinus took the lead for the first time at 7-5 with 16:11 left on a layup by Teuber. The Bears would maintain the lead, going up by as much as 14 points with 1:36 left before leading 32-21 at halftime.

In the second half, Haverford chopped away at the deficit, before taking a 45-44 lead with 6:26 left on a three-pointer by Voith. Teuber would score just one jumper in the last 4:07, but, got two foul shots from Teuber with 32 seconds left to force the overtime.

In the overtime, Haverford went up by two early, before Ursinus took the lead for good on a foul shot by Martin with 47 seconds left.
