Women's Basketball falls to Washington College, 49-41

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Ursinus College got 17 points from senior center Alex Shivers (Pine Beach, N.J./Toms River South), but it was not enough as the Bears (11-6, 8-5 Centennial) dropped a 49-41 decision to Washington College (7-10, 5-7 Centennial) in women's basketball play Thursday night on the Delmarva Peninsula.

Ursinus, who shot just 21.3 percent (13-for-61) from the field in the game, also got six points from senior guard Jaclyn Hlif (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin).

Washington College, who also shot below 25 percent in the contest, got 16 points from Meghan Tait.

The game was won on the foul line, as Washington was 24-for-33, with Ursinus going 11-for-16. Washington also had a 50-38 edge in rebounding, as Erin Fitzgerald had 10 for Washington with Shivers grabbing nine for the Bears.

Ursinus started off the game by embarking on a 12-4 run, going up by eight on a layup by Shivers with 13:42 left. Washington responded with a 10-0 run over the next 3:43 ending with a 14-12 lead on a pair of foul shots by Fitzgerald. The Shorewomen would outscore the Bears 8-4 the rest of the half, taking a 22-16 lead at intermission.

In the second half, Ursinus rallied back to take a 24-23 lead with 16:55 left, Ursinus last held the lead at 34-32 with 9:09 left on a layup by freshman guard Diamond Lewis (East Windsor, N.J./Stuart Country Day).

Ursinus hosts Dickinson on Saturday.
