Women's Basketball upends Swarthmore, 60-46

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's basketball team kept themselves near the top of the Centennial Conference standings on Saturday afternoon as the Bears (11-5, 8-4 Centennial) defeated Swarthmore (10-7, 6-6 Centennial) 60-46.

The Bears are in a third place tie with Gettysburg and F&M, and stand a half-game behind Muhlenberg heading into the second half of the schedule. 

Ursinus, who never trailed past the halfway point of the first half, got 17 points and ten rebounds from junior forward Lindsay Teuber (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil's) with senior guard Jaclyn Hilf (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) chipped in with 14. Freshman forward Sarah Martin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) added in ten points and nine rebounds.

Swarthmore was paced by 17 points and eight rebounds from senior forward Kathryn Stockbower, with freshman guard Katie Lytle adding in 12 off the bench.

Ursinus darted out to an early 9-2 lead in the first half on a three-pointer from Hilf with 16:12 left, before Swarthmore went on a 8-0 run, capped by a layup from Stockbower with 14:07 left for a 10-9 Garnet lead. A layup by senior forward Alex Shivers (Pine Beach, N.J./Toms River South), followed by a three-pointer from Hilf put Ursinus back up 14-10 with 13:12 left 

Following a 16-all tie with 7:49 left, Ursinus went on a 8-0 run and never looked back as after a layup by junior forward Jackie Thomas (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) with 5:58 left, Ursinus led 24-16.

In the second half, Swarthmore got as close as one point (34-33 with 13:15 left), before Ursinus went on another scoring burst to go up seven.

Swarthmore had a 34-25 lead on the glass, but, Ursinus had just six turnovers in the win.

The Bears head to Washington on Wednesday.
