Women's Basketball falls to Muhlenberg, 61-59

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Muhlenberg junior guard Alexandra Chili scored the game's final five points, including the game winning layup with just 1.3 second left, as the Mules (11-4, 7-3 Centennial) scored a 61-59 win over Ursinus (10-5, 7-4 Centennial) Wednesday night in a battle of two teams near the top of the Centennial Conference standings.

Chili finished with a game-high 26 points, while senior guard Alexandra Berlin added in 12 for Muhlenberg.

Ursinus, who did not get off a final shot, was led by senior guard Jaclyn Hilf (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) who had 17 points. Junior forward Lindsay Teuber (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil's) added in 13, with freshman forward Sarah Martin (Doylestown, Pa./C.B. East) scoring ten.

A big difference in the game was the rebounding margin, as Muhlenberg was ten better (49-39) over Ursinus, including a 19-8 margin on the offensive glass. Those 19 offensive rebounds led to 18 second-chance points for the Mules.

Ursinus had a lead with 1:58 left, as a jumper by Martin gave the Bears a 59-56 lead. Chili then hit a three-pointer with 1:44 left to tie the score. Ursinus then missed two shots, including one off of a Muhlenberg turnover, before Chili hit the game-winning shot.

Ursinus enjoyed its biggest lead of the game with 13:56 left in the opening half, as a three-pointer by Hilf gave the Bears a 14-8 lead. Hilf connected on five three-pointers in the contest. The Bears enjoyed the lead for most of the first half, before Chili's foul shot with nine seconds left tied the score at 29-all at intermission.

Muhlenberg's biggest lead came with 13:15 left in the second half at 44-36 on a layup by freshman forward Leeann Lanza.

Ursinus hosts Swarthmore on Saturday.
