Women's Basketball picks up win number ten with 57-53 defeat of Gettysburg

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's basketball team picked up another important conference win on Thursday, fending off Gettysburg by a 57-53 score in a key Centennial game. The win kept Ursinus in second place with Johns Hopkins, heading into a stretch with three games in six days next week starting with F&M.

The Bears got 14 points from freshman point guard Diamond Lewis (East Windsor, N.J./Stuart Country Day), while adding in 13 points from freshman forward Sarah Martin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East).

The game featured ten ties and 14 lead changes, with Ursinus holding Gettysburg to without a field goal over the final 3:32 of the contest. In that final time frame, Ursinus outscored the Bullets 6-2, with a layup by Lewis with just 1:10 left giving Ursinus a four point lead at 55-51.

Ursinus had great play off its bench as well, as senior forward Alex Shivers (Pine Beach, N.J./Toms River South) and junior guard Jen Sroba (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) each added in seven. Sroba had a foul shot with 12 seconds left that gave Ursinus a 56-53 lead.

Gettysburg got 17 points from junior forward Julie McGrory off the bench, with junior forward Sara Kinsley adding in ten.

Ursinus got seven rebounds from Martin, holding a slim 39-38 lead on the glass.
