Women's Basketball starts off 2011 right with 61-40 win over Delaware Valley

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus showed no signs of rust after a 22-day layoff as the Bears (8-2) defeated Delaware Valley (6-6) 61-40 Monday night in women's basketball play. The Bears led from the beginning of the game, taking as much as a 21-point lead late in the contest.

The Bears put three players in double figures with freshman guard Diamond Lewis (East Windsor, N.J./Stuart Country Day), senior forward Alex Shivers (Pine Beach, N.J./Toms River South) and junior guard Jen Sroba (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) each scoring ten points.

Delaware Valley was led by sophomore forward Emily Soper with eight points, while junior forward Jackie Shunkwiler had six points and ten rebounds.

Ursinus had a commanding 51-39 lead in rebounding, with freshman forward Sarah Martin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) and junior forward Lindsay Teuber (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) each grabbing a game-high 11. Teuber also picked up three steals and three blocks.

Ursinus had a 28-14 lead at intermission, as Delaware Valley shots just 19.2 percent from the field in the first half (5-for-26) and was 0-for-9 from the three-point line.

Ursinus has a quick turnaround, as the Bears take on McDaniel Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
