Women's Basketball goes wire-to-wire in win over Haverford, 65-48

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Host Ursinus put two players in double figures as the Bears (6-2, 4-1 Centennial) led wire-to-wire in a 65-48 win over the Fords of Haverford (4-4, 2-3 Centennial) on Wednesday night at Helfferich Hall.

Ursinus senior guard Jaclyn Hilf (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) had 15 points, with freshman guard Diamond Lewis (East Windsor, N.J./Stuart Country Day) added in a career-high 12 points as Ursinus had a nine point lead at intermission.

The Bears also had a commanding lead on the glass, grabbing 48 caroms to 35 for Haverford. Junior forward Lindsay Teuber (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil's) had a game-high 16 rebounds which was just one off her career high as she just missed a double-double with eight points.

For Haverford, sophomore guard Nina Voith had a game-best 18 points, with sophomore forward Dominique Meeks adding in 16.

Ursinus jumped out to an early 8-2 lead with 16:59 left in the opening half as freshman forward Sarah Martin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) scored on a jumper. The lead would get as high as seven, before Haverford cut it to 17-15 with 9:19 left on a layup by Meeks. Ursinus would then embark on a 6-0 run to go up 23-15 with 6:09 left on a three-pointer by junior forward Jackie Thomas (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower). The Bears would get the lead up to nine at intermission, as Hilf scored on a jumper with 1:20 left.

In the second half, Ursinus cracked the game open as the Bears outscored the Fords 16-6 to start the half going up 46-27 with 14:09 left on a three-pointer by junior guard Kristy George (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall). Haverford would rally to with five with 4:11 left on a layup by Meeks, but, that would turn out to be the last field goal for the Fords as Ursinus closed the game on a 12-0 run.

Lewis finished with seven assists, again a career-high.

Ursinus turns its sights on another key matchup, taking on Dickinson in Carlisle at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
