Women's Basketball suffers first CC loss at Swarthmore, 70-62

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – After falling behind in the first half, Ursinus rallied in the second half to take the lead briefly, before Swarthmore grabbed the lead and fended off the Bears (5-2, 3-1 Centennial) in a 70-62 Garnet (5-2, 3-1 Centennial) win on Saturday afternoon in a women's basketball contest at Tarble Pavilion.

Ceylan Bodur scored 17 points off the bench for the Garnet, who had three players in double figures and got 31 points from their reserves, including 14 from Katie Lytle.

For Ursinus, junior forward Lindsay Teuber (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil's) had 14 points to lead the Bears, with freshman forward Sarah Martin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) adding in 11. Sophomore forward Amber Yacenda (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) and senior guard Jaclyn  Hilf (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin), along with freshman guard Diamond Lewis (East Windsor, N.J./Stuart Country Day) each added in seven points in the loss.

The stats were nearly symmetrical as both teams made 16 foul shots and had 19 turnovers. Ursinus held the lead on the glass at 35-33, with Martin grabbing seven for the Bears.

Swarthmore pulled away early, going up by seven at 16-9 with 11:01 left on a layup by Kathryn Stockbower. Ursinus would get within three several times, but, Swarthmore went 6-for-7 from the foul line in the closing 1:19 of the half to take a 29-22 lead at intermission.

A layup by Yacenda with 15:23 left in regulation gave Ursinus its last lead of the game at 35-33. A three-pointer by Bodur with 14:59 left gave the Garnet the lead at 35-33, which was a lead they would not give up the rest of the way.

Ursinus will host Haverford on Wednesday.
