Women's Basketball defeats Franklin & Marshall, 60-55

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus College put three players in double figures as the Bears (4-1, 2-0 Centennial) continued their hot start with a 60-55 win over Franklin & Marshall (2-3, 1-1 Centennial) Tuesday night at Helfferich Hall.

Freshman forward Sarah Martin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) had 16 points, with junior guard Kristy George (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) scoring 15 points. Junior forward Lindsay Teuber (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil's) had ten points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

For the Diplomats, junior guard Megan Pauley scored a game-high 20 points, with junior guard Allison Bauer and sophomore guard Colleen Bott each had eight points.

The two teams combined for 12 blocks, as Ursinus senior forward Alex Shivers (Pine Beach, N.J./Toms River South) had four, with freshman forward Kristina McCarthy netting four for the Diplomats. Pauley and Bauer had four steals as the Diplomats had 14 steals.

The two teams traded the lead early, before Ursinus went out to a 27-15 lead with seven minutes to go on a three-pointer by George. While Ursinus would not give up the lead the rest of the way, the Diplomats got to within two at 29-27 on a layup by freshman forward Emma Lisle. Ursinus would close the half on a 7-0 run, going up 36-27 at the half.

While F&M would keep the deficit in single digits the rest of the way, Ursinus led the lead slip to no lower than four.

Ursinus finished the game with a slim 38-37 edge on the glass, and held F&M to just 1-for-7 from the three-point line.

The Bears go to Bryn Mawr on Thursday.
