Women's Basketball falls in heartbreaker to McDaniel, 50-48

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Ursinus sophomore forward Lindsay Teuber (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil's) had a game-high 13 points and 11 rebounds, but, it was not enough as the Bears (6-7, 4-5 Centennial) fell to McDaniel (9-4, 8-2 Centennial) 50-48 Wednesday night in women's basketball play at the Gill Center.

The Bears saw the Green Terror outscore them 31-12 over the final 16:40 of the contest. At that point, Ursinus had led 36-19. The scoring run by McDaniel actually reached 20-2 at one point.

McDaniel got two foul shots from senior Ali Moreland with six seconds left to take the win. Ursinus could not get a shot off in their final possession.

Junior guard Jaclyn Hilf (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) added in 11 points for the Bears, who due to travel issues, arrived at the venue at 6:20 p.m. and took straight to the floor for warm ups.

The late start did not affect the Bears, as they opened the game with a 7-2 lead with 15:41 left in the first half on a layup from sophomore guard Alli Rosati (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks East). The Green Terror would come back and take an 8-7 lead with 13:19 left on a jumper by freshman guard Sam Whitman.

Ursinus then jumped back in front 14-8 on a jumper by Hilf with 10:41 left. The Bears maintained the lead and built it as high as nine three times, including a 26-17 lead with 28 seconds left to go on a pair of foul shots by freshman forward Amber Yacenda (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East).

Leading 25-19 at half, Ursinus opened the second stanza on an 11-0 run to go up 36-19 on a jumper by senior guard Laura Krieger (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes). McDaniel then started its slow climb to the lead and ended up with a 46-45 lead with 2:43 left on a jumper by junior guard Cara Thompson. A layup by senior guard Sally Grace with 1:46 left gave the Green Terror its biggest lead of the half at 48-45.

Ursinus got back within one at 48-47 on a layup by Teuber with 1:18 left, then tied it on a foul shot by Teuber with 34 seconds left.

For McDaniel, senior center Ashley Lyles and Grace each had nine points, while Moreland added in eight.

The Bears had a slight 36-34 edge on the glass.

Ursinus will host Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon to close the season series with the Garnet.
