Bears fall to Norwich, 64-58, in CvC Consolation

YORK, Pa. - Ursinus junior guard Jaclyn Hilf (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) had a game-high 17 points, but the Bears (5-5) fell to Norwich (7-4) 64-58 Sunday afternoon in the consolation game of the 2010 Coaches Vs. Cancer Classic hosted by York (Pa.) College.

Sophomore guard Alli Rosati (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks East) added in 11 points for the Bears, who were outrebounded 50-38 on the afternoon. Junior forward Alex Shivers (Pine Beach, N.J./Toms River South) had nine rebounds for the Bears in a losing effort.

For the Cadets, senior guard Ally Daniels had 16 points.

Ursinus started the game on a 5-0 run as Rosati  connected on a three-pointer 49 seconds in, followed by two foul shots from Shivers with 18:21 left. The Bears lead reached its apex with 14:04 left at 16-8 on a layup by sophomore forward Lindsay Teuber (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil's).

A foul shot from Norwich's Tara Stevenson with 12:12 got the Cadets with two at 16-14, but, Ursinus pushed the lead back up to four at 18-14 with 10:27 left on a pair of foul shots from senior guard Laura Krieger (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes). Norwich then went on a 10-0 run to go up 24-18 with 7:59 left on a layup by Kylie Owens.

Ursinus fought back to within two on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Chrissy Taylor (Narvon, Pa./Garden Spot) with 6:51 left at 24-22. Ursinus would eventually tie the score at 28-all on a foul shot by sophomore guard Jen Sroba (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) with 63 second left. Norwich got a foul shot from Natalie Marchese and a layup from Christine Daniels to go up 31-28 at intermission.

In the first 20 minutes, both teams combined for 29 foul shots attempts, with Ursinus connecting on 59 percent of its chances (10-for-17), while Norwich was 6-for-12 (50 percent). Both teams also combined for 26 fouls.

In the beginning part of the second half, it became a game of scoring runs as Norwich started off the half with an 8-0 run to go up 39-28 with 15:07 left on a layup by Stevenson. Ursinus then countered with an 11-0 run of its own to tie the score at 39-all with 13:02 left on a three-point play by Rosati.

Ursinus regained the lead at 46-45 on a three-pointer by Krieger at 9:48, and went up by as much as five, before Norwich responded back to take 54-50 lead with 5:54 left. Ursinus would tie the score at 54-all, 56-all and 58-58 with just over a minute left on a layup by Shivers.
