Willis Tabbed CC Pitcher of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. – After a stretch of thoroughly dominant work on the mound, Kaitlyn Willis has been named the Centennial Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Willis' record was 1-1 for the week, but her numbers were eye-popping. The senior allowed just one earned run (two total) in 20.0 innings, striking out 22 and conceding a mere 12 hits and six walks in three starts against Washington College and McDaniel.

Willis was a hard-luck loser in the opener of Tuesday's twin bill at Washington College, striking out eight and permitting just four hits and one earned run. The right-hander came back with a pair of sensational starts against McDaniel; she tossed a three-hit shutout with nine strikeouts in a 5-0 win in the opener, then allowed five hits and one unearned run in the first seven frames of a 4-3, eight-inning loss in the nightcap.

Through the first half of the season, Willis has solidified her place as the best pitcher in the conference. She leads the league in wins (5), complete games (8), and strikeouts (63) while ranking second in ERA (1.11) and innings (63.1), third in strikeouts per game (6.96), and fourth in opponent batting average (.227).

Willis and the Bears are back in action on Tuesday at home against Muhlenberg.
