Two Tabbed All-CC in Softball

2017 All-CC Softball

LANCASTER, Pa. – Ursinus College sophomore outfielders Samantha Garritano and Faith Carson were named to the All-Centennial Conference Team, released Wednesday morning by the league office.

Garritano was elected to the first team for her spectacular campaign, while Carson earned a nod on the second team. That marked the first time since 2013 that Ursinus placed multiple players on the all-conference roster.

Garritano is the Bears' first All-CC first teamer since Allison Pfrommer in 2013 and the program's first first team outfielder since Amy Gentile in 2012. The super sophomore finished with team highs in batting average (.377, 4th CC), hits (43, 9th), on-base percentage (.445, 5th), slugging percentage (.491), triples (3), home runs (1), and RBI (24, 4th). Garritano, who was second on the team with 22 runs and fourth with five stolen bases, was even better in conference play, topping the league with 24 hits and 15 RBI while hitting .429 (5th) and producing a .484 on-base percentage (5th). She also owned a .985 fielding percentage with a pair of outfield assists.

Garritano, whose 24 RBI are the most by an Ursinus player since Pfrommer drove in 26 runs in 2012, closed the season on a 16-game hitting streak. She had multiple hits in ten of those contests, including a 3-for-3 performance with a double and two RBI against eventual CC champion Franklin & Marshall.

The first team nomination for Garritano help Ursinus keep a slim lead over McDaniel for the most first team selections in CC history. The Bears now have 54, with the Green Terror right behind with 52.

Carson turned in impressive numbers in her first season with the Bears, hitting .304 with 14 RBI and ranking second in the conference with three triples. She came on strong down the stretch, posting a .347 average and .396 on-base percentage in CC games and registering multiple hits in five of her last seven starts. Carson finished 6-for-11 with a triple and five RBI in the final three games of the year, which included a win at Delaware Valley and a sweep at Dickinson.

Carson did not commit an error in 22 total chances in the outfield and added two assists.

The softball team finished the 2017 season at 17-19 overall and 7-9 in the CC.
