Softball closes season at Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Ursinus College softball team closed its season on Saturday by dropping two games against Swarthmore in a Centennial Conference doubleheader.

In game one, Ursinus was held to three hits in a 3-0 loss to the Garnet, while in game two, Ursinus (10-24, 2-14 Centennial) saw Swarthmore (11-22, 3-13 Centennial) scored two times in the fifth to win 4-1.

Delia Mercurio also hit safely for the Bears in game one. Heinke took the loss, falling to 5-15. She struck out two and walked one.

In game two, Ursinus tied the score at 1-all in the fourth when freshman Morgan Worthington got on base with a double, then scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman Casey Derella. Heinke again led the way with two hits, both singles, while Mercurio and Shelby Edelson both hit safely.

In her final game, senior Caitlin Whelan pitched 5.2 innings and allowed four runs. She finished the year at 4-8.
