Softball drops two on senior day

COLLEGEVILLE , Pa. -  Ursinus College softball team honored senior pitcher Caitlin Whelan and graduating junior Deanna Madison for senior day, but dropped both games to Centennial Conference leader Muhlenberg Saturday, at Snell Field.

The Bears fall to 7-21 and 2-12 in the Centennial Conference after dropping game one 2-0 and game two 9-0 in 6 innings. While the Mules hold on to first place in the conference with a record of 23-7 and 12-2 in the CC.

Whelan is an exercise and sport science major from Stan Hope, New Jersey. Whelan came into today's game with 48 appearances on the mound starting 28 games and has 11 career wins with 224 innings pitched with 119 strikeouts and a career ERA of 4.49. As a batter she has 26 RBIs and 48 hits for a career .250 batting average.

Madison is graduating after her junior year with a degree in media and communications with a minor in film studies. Coming from Exeter Pa, Madison has appeared in 49 games slugging 15 hits, with a triple and homerun.

In game one Ursinus loaded the bases with three consecutive hits, but couldn't drive anyone home in the first inning. Muhlenberg junior pitcher Kelsey Jones shut down the Bears for the rest of the game not giving up a single hit. On the mound for the Bears Zoe Heinke went seven innings only giving up one earned run and struck out six batters.

The Mules dominated game two scoring nine runs in six innings while Ursinus only recorded three hits during the game.

The Bears look to break their losing streak traveling to Immaculata to face the Mighty Macs (19-7) Tuesday April 22nd at 3:00 pm.
