Softball swept by nationally-ranked Washington

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Nationally-ranked Washington College scored eight runs in both ends of a doubleheader on Tuesday, sweeping both games from Ursinus by 8-0 run scores. In game one, the Bears lost 5-0 in five innings, while the second game ended when the Shorewomen (14-4, 3-1 Centennial) scored a run in the sixth against Ursinus (5-11, 1-5 Centennial).

Ursinus was limited to just one hit in each game, with junior catcher Nikki Djambinov getting a single in the opener, while junior centerfielder Delia Mercurio led off with a single in the second game.

In the opener, sophomore Zoe Heinke took the loss as she threw two innings, walking one and allowing five earn runs. Senior pitcher Caitlin Whelan pitched the final 2.1 innings, allowing two earn runs.

In game two, Heinke went the distance. She struck out three and walked four while allowing four earned runs.

Ursinus heads to Gettysburg on Saturday.
