COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Playing at home for the first time this season, Ursinus split its home opener and Centennial Conference doubleheader with Dickinson.

In game one, it was all Red Devils as broke open a 6-0 game with ten runs in the top of the sixth in a 16-0 win in five innings, while Ursinus (5-7, 1-1 Centennial) got a big first inning as the Bears defeated the Red Devil (5-9, 1-1 Centennial) 7-6 in the nightcap.

In the first game, Ursinus managed just four hits in the loss, two of which coming from sophomore infielder/pitcher Zoe Heinke. Dickinson's Chelsea Homa got the win, striking out four and walking two. For Ursinus, senior pitcher Caitlin Whelan took the loss, falling to 2-3 she struck out two and walked one in five innings of work.

Game two was a wild affair, as Ursinus struck first in the bottom of the inning with a five spot. The big blow came from junior catcher Nikki Djambinov, as she hit a grand slam to right center with two outs in the inning, after freshman shortstop Casey Derella walked with the bases loaded to force in a run.

Dickinson would respond with three in the top of the second and two more in the third to tied the score at 5-all. In the fiffh, freshman designated player Morgan Worthington would walk with the bases loaded to score Whelanfor a  6-5 lead.

The Red Devils would again tie the score in the sixth, before Whelan doubled down the right field line to score junior first baseman Ellen Goldstein. In the seventh, Heinke got three fly outs to end the game and earn the split. Heinke moved to 3-3 with a five strikeout performance in the nightcap.

Ursinus continues conference play on Tuesday, when the Bears host F&M.
