Softball splits a pair on Day Two in South Carolina

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Ursinus College softball team split a pair of games on Monday at the Snowbird Classic in the Grand Strand.


In the first game of the day, Ursinus defeated Mount Aloysius, 8-0 in five innings before falling to Bemidiji State, 9-4 in the second game.

In the opener, Ursinus plated six runs in the second, with junior Deanna Madison and freshman Morgan Worthington each had two-run hits. Freshman Derella and junior Ellen Goldstein also had RBI hits. 

In the fifth, sophomore Edelson and junior Nikki Djambinov each had run scoring hits. 

On the day, Worthington was 2-for-3, while Edelson and Djambinov each had two hits. 

Senior Caitlin Whelan got the win, moving to 1-1. She struck out two and walked one and scattered four hits. 

In the night cap, Bemidiji State scored four in the fifth and one in the sixth to pull away from a 4-3 game. 

Whelan and junior Delia Mercurio each had two hits in the loss, with Djambinov having a two-run double. 

Sophomore Zoe Heinke took the loss, going the distance. She struck out two and walked three.
