Softball splits with McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Ursinus College softball team earned an all important split in a Centennial Conference doubleheader on Saturday with McDaniel.

In game one, the Bears were held to one-hit in a 2-0 loss to the Green Terror, while Ursinus (10-14, 5-5 Centennial) scored the game-winning run in the eighth to defeat McDaniel (15-13, 4-6 Centennial) 4-3 in game two.

The opener saw Delia Mercurio pick up the lone hit with two outs in the third. Kelly Schymanski took the loss in game one, striking out three and walking one.

In game two, Ursinus took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run home run from Schymanski to straight away center.

McDaniel battled back to score one in the second and two in the third to take a 3-2 lead. In the sixth, Ursinus tied the score on a RBI single from Caitlin Whelan that scored Amy Gentile.

In the eighth, Gentile scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly to center by Emelie McFarland.

Schymanski bounced back to win game two, walking two. Gentile finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Schymanski had three hits.
