Softball falls in two games at CC tournament

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Ursinus College softball team saw their run in the Centennial Conference tournament come to an end Saturday with two losses.

The Bears dropped their opening game to McDaniel 3-0, while the Bears (23-18) dropped a 3-2 decision to Washington in the elimination game.

In the first game, McDaniel scored once in the fourth and two times in the fifth en route to the win.

Ursinus was held to just three hits as junior center fielder Amy Gentile, junior first baseman Allison Pfrommer and senior third baseman Cassie Brown each collected singles.

Junior pitcher Jennilyn Weber took the loss, falling to 14-9. She struck out four and walked two.

In the second game, Ursinus took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a bases loaded walk by senior designated player Kate Kehoe that scored junior catcher Rachael Vietheer.

Washington would score in the fourth and then add two more in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.

Ursinus answered back with a run in the sixth as Brown doubled home junior Kelly Schymanski.

Ursinus went 1-2-3 in the seventh to wrap up the season.

Gentile, Schymanski, Kehoe and Brown all finished with hits.

Weber took the loss, finishing the year at 14-10. She struck out two and walked two.
